Introducing the new edition of the world's most downloaded DJ app
Redesign the app to keep our leading position in the market, even with good scores of downloads and retention
Main priorities of the edjing redesign
● Enhance the UX
● Add new, innovative features
● Add some Skeuomorphism to the UI
● Rebuild the sound system
Design Roadmap
Create awesome and FAST websites!
Brainstorming
with internal & external users
● Be able to let edjing mix for me
● Use my Apple Watch to control the app
● Use 2 fx at the same time like a real mix table
● Access to the main features with 1 click
● Skeuomorphism design to reminds my real dj stuff
● Hardware compatibility (Support of Timecode vinyl) because the tactile is limited for me
● Mixfader support
Rethink
the main navigation
We wanted to know if our brainstorming findings were relevant so we asked our users what features they thought were interesting. Thanks to edjing's data base we were able to send a customer survey by email to our most loyal users.
This is some results :
The most interesting insight here is 93% of our users are willing to change their habits if their experience is improved on the app. Before conducting the survey we were very uncertain about radically changing the UX so this allowed to work serenely.
Rethink the main navigation
When we started the UX part it became clear that this was a complete overhaul in order to get even closer to a real DJ experience.
There were some ergonomics problems with the navigation and the usability of fx
The two important things on which i insisted since the brainstorming sessions were :
Modules
The heart of edjing mix
The most exciting part turned out as the most complex one.
I was really excited to see the guys of the sound system working. It's amazing how they can talk to you for hours on a simple waveform like a sine or square.
As an electronic music producer it was really fun to help them to refine the fx and conceive new sound effects.
Special mention for their work about cpu optimisation who helped the app at every level like the design and the animations fluidity
Which is directly related to the UX of the application
Put the hardware feeling in a app
Again, in order to get closer to a real DJ experience we designed the new version like the real DJ stuff.
A fine blend between skeuomorphism (Like a vinyl turntable,a fader..) and flat part design (Like the digital FX, screens who equipe the next gen of DJ gear)
Engage our users with a private beta
Thanks to the high level of organisation during the project and the many feedbacks we received from the beta testers and Pro DJ's test sessions the final results of the beta survey were a success and allowed to release the app serenely

What i learned from this project
edjing was the most interesting project of my career because is cross platform/device (iOS+Android/Smartphone+Tablet) and all the MWM team (as the Product Owners, iOs team, Android team, Sound engineer, Communication and marketing, testers) and i worked with all of them.
